Hiya I bet Scarborough will be hopping with Bank Holiday visitors. Fine weather expected. Will you get to visit the castle? I'll have to google who built it and lived there. Hope you enjoy your stay, unlike us in miserable overcast Ealing - well, at least today. Set for sun over the weekend.
This is the actual transcript of a radio conversation between a British Navy ship and the Irish Coastguard, off the coast of Kerry:
Irish. Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south, to avoid collision
British. Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the north, to avoid collision
Irish. Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the south ' to avoid collision.
British. This is the Captain of a British Navy Ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
Irish. Negative. I say again, you will have to divert YOUR course
British. THIS IS THE LARGEST SHIP IN THE BRITISH FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY 3 DESTROYERS, 3 CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT SHIPS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES TO THE NORTH, OR COUNTERMEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS FLOTILLA.
Talking of lighthouses ... gazing at them from afar as we sailed by was one of the highlights of the journey Pat and I took. they are surely one of the most underrated buildings, in my opinion. They are solitary guardians that stand out in lonely - and usually perilous spots, each one unique in its design and location. Brendan, try to take some photographs of them please, if you can.
Alnwick (silent L, silent W). Impressive castle and town that I had never heard of. Alnwick castle. Home of Harry Hotspur, the famous knight (what? You've never heard of him?) Alnwick castle. Amble marina. Walworth castle in the distance.
Day 19 on The Nomad and only now I get a link to the blog! I won't believe anything you tell me in a pub again😂
ReplyDeleteIt's a precious thing Jules. I'm rationing it out.
