Great photos! Thanks so much. I suppose I was surprised to hear about the choppy waters but then again there seem to be vast tracts of open water and not just sheltered canals. Talking of canals, Pat and I and 3 Spanish lads and our 2 huskies traveled through the Canal du Midi in southern France. It took about 4 days? maybe 5. Anyway, the water was absolutely still, the locks were all mostly automated so you just had to tie up and press a button. The rest of the work was done. (The 3 Spanish lads were bored out of their minds because they were looking for fiesta in the evenings and all the little French villages were very sleepy and closed. No one goes out for any night life there.) I remember reading Shogun, a very thick novel, and loving it. Helped to pass the time. That was when we sailed to Mallorca and Menorca (minus 2 of the lads). The dogs were great sailors.
Not sure if you have noticed Jupiter quite low in the South East on recent nights; anyway you should have a great chance of also seeing Saturn. It is easily visible to the naked eye apparently, at about 2 o'clock from Jupiter (Steve)
Sadly Steve, stargazing has been a disappointment, it never gets dark enough up here in the summer. There is always a glow on the horizon after sundown, it doesn't go away and just moves east overnight and then the sun comes up.
Alnwick (silent L, silent W). Impressive castle and town that I had never heard of. Alnwick castle. Home of Harry Hotspur, the famous knight (what? You've never heard of him?) Alnwick castle. Amble marina. Walworth castle in the distance.
